In 1605 a noble protector had a chapel built on the site where hermits had lived

In 1605, a noble protector had a chapel built on the site where hermits were said to have lived.

After the French Revolution, the chapel became the property of the commune, which rented it to a hermit, Joseph Simonin.

It then reverted to private ownership and was threatened with abandonment. Today, an association is working to preserve it.

A grassy terrace behind the chapel offers a panoramic view of the Vallière valley.

Further up in Briod, the chapel of St Etienne de Coldre is believed to be one of the oldest churches in Franche-Comté. It is home to a Burgundian cemetery that exudes a very special atmosphere.
