Eglise Saint Christophe
Church of Saint-Christophe in Chissey-sur-Loue. Free admission every day from 9am to 7pm
Built at the end of the 12th century and in the 13th century, then transformed in the 15th and 18th centuries, it was listed as a Historic Monument in 1840.
Its distinctive feature is the interior cornice decorated with mouldings, foliage and human heads with pathological features known as "Baboons". These represent the mentally ill people who were brought here every year on the pilgrimage of Saint Christopher, patron saint of travellers and ferrymen, to return them from their world to ours.
